It was held on Sunday the 5th August at 10 a.m. at the Udupi Sri Krishna Mandira premises with our President Sri G.S.Subramanyam in the chair. As usual, the attendance at the start was thin but picked up towards the end! Invocation rendered by Smt. Rathnamma Hanumantha Rao was followed by the Vice-President Sri C.S.Krishnaswamy Rao welcoming all the Members and their families.
The Assembly was informed about the 5 Members who had expired since the last AGM namely:

A silent prayer was offered in memory of the departed souls and appropriate condolence messages recorded to be sent to the bereaved families.
Business matters were then taken up with the Annual Report of Activities being presented by the Secretary Sri N.R.Shankara Rao and the audited Financial Report tabled by the Treasurer Sri K.G.Bharathy. After seeking some clarifications on both the reports, provided by the Treasurer and the Vice-President Dr. Y.Narayana Rao, they were unanimously accepted by the General Body. Budgeted financial statement for 2007-2008 was then presented and was approved with some modifications.
Prof. M.A.Chandrasekhar, who had acted as the Election Officer for the election of Office-bearers for the period 2007-2009, reported on the number of nominations received, those withdrawn within the prescribed period, etc. and announced that since there were only 15 valid nominations for the15 posts, no voting was necessary and declared the following 15 candidates elected:

The new Executive Committee assumed charge and assured the Assembly that they would continue the good work done by the outgoing committee and strive even more to bring the Badaganadu Bhavana project to an early fruition.
While discussing other matters, donations to the Building Fund were offered by the following :

On behalf of the Building Committee, Dr. Narayana Rao expressed appreciation of such spontaneous gestures and wished for more of them! Sri Prabhakar then detailed the plans of the proposed Badaganadu Bhavana building and sought the approval of the Assembly, which was promptly accorded also, thus reposing full confidence in the committee. It was also announced that the Bhoomi Puja at the site would be performed by our local MP Sri C.H.Vijayashankar on 26th August at 8.30 a.m. and followed by Sathyanarayana Swamy Puja at 9.30 a.m. All Members were requested to attend both functions with their families and friends.
During the concluding deliberations, our new Member Sri Harishankar, announced that he would donate Rs. 2000 worth of books each year, in memory of his father Prof. Shankaranarayana Rao (of Sharada Vilas College fame!), to the Library to be established at the new Building. While thanking him for such a wonderful offer, grateful mention was also made by Dr. Narayana Rao of the prompt remittance of 20 USD by Sri Datta in USA in response to an appeal put up on our website seeking financial help for the Italy- Trip of our Nadige Shankar to participate in the Masters Olympics representing India.
After a brief Presidential Address by Sri Subramanyam and an even briefer Vote of Thanks by Dr. Narayana Rao, the AGM was declared closed and adjourned for a sumptuous and tasty lunch. |
