Our 19th Annual Day function was held on the 9th Feb. 2008 at the Rotary West
Auditorium. Sri H.N.Ramathirtha, an Industrialist and Vice-Chairman
of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Mysore was the Chief
Guest. We made use of the occasion to recognize the contributions
made to the educational field by Prof. K.V.Arkanath, Hon. Secretary
of the famous Vidya Vardhaka Institutions of Mysore, by honouring
him. Both the guests, in their respective speeches, spoke of the
usefulness of small organizations like our Balaga in maintaining the
heritage, social and cultural identity of human groups and encouraged
us to continue our efforts.
On Saturday the 15th December, mainly the ladies
from our Vanitha Vibhaga met at the Mahila Sadana premises on N.S.Road and
exhibited their skills in preparing predominantly wheat based sweets and savory items.
On Sunday the 9th December, the outdoor sports
events were conducted at the Rotary West
School premises, with active
participation from about 25-30 Members.
Excavation for that part of the Bhavan's Building
which would house our Office and a Meeting Hall has been completed and the
actual marking for the columns and foundation bed is to be taken up shortly.
The event, organized this time entirely by our Mahila Vibhaga, attracted a good 25-30 participants - men, women and children as well! It was conducted at the Samathentho
premises on Sunday, the 18th
November, 2007. In the Rangoli Competition, there were 5 entries - some entries can be seen below. Then there were games like Carrom, Pagade,
Team Games, Singing Competition, etc. in all of which participation was
quite good. Adjudication of the singing was done by Smt..Leela Rao and
Smt.Shailaja, two wellknown Gamaka Artistes. The prizes will be
distributed to the winners on the Annual Day in January 2008.
Congratulations to all winners.
The weather had been threatening with daily late-evening
showers but fortunately for us, it took a welcome respite on 26th
morning and did not affect the arrangements made with a Shamiana put up
for the gathering on the northern side. The ground itself had been cleared of
shrubs and the exact location of the proposed building marked on the southern
side.
