Well, the month gone by has been rather eventful. First, with the Annual Indoor Sports and then with the commencement of the Building work!
Annual Indoor Sports
The event, organized this time entirely by our Mahila Vibhaga (women's wing), attracted a good 25-30 participants - men, women and children as well! It was conducted at the Samathentho premises on Sunday, the 18th November. In the Rangoli Competition, there were 5 entries, all by ladies. Then there were games like Carrom, Pagade, Team Games, Singing Competition, etc. in all of which participation was quite good. Adjudication of the singing was done by Smt.Leela Rao and Smt.Shailaja, two wellknown Gamaka Artistes. The prizes will be distributed to the winners on the Annual Day in January 2008. Congratulations to all winners. The pictures taken at this event can be seen here.
Progress at the Bhavana Building Site
While still awaiting final approval by the Town Planning Authority, marking of the exact location of the building for starting excavation was done on 25th. Excavation for the cellar is expected to start this week. Meanwhile, budget estimates have been finalized and the prevailing rates for each ventilator, window, rolling shutter, main Door and Small Door are put up for the use of Donors who might desire to donate for such specific items:
Ventilator (4' x 2') Rs. 2,500
Window (6' x 5') Rs. 9,000
Rolling Shutter (3' x 7') Rs. 20,000
Main Door (7' x 6') Rs. 20,000
Small Door (6' x 3') Rs. 7,000
Approximate cost of the building works out to Rs. 600-700 per sq.ft. and initially, with all our available resources, only about 2,500-3,000 sq.ft. can be taken up. There you see the reason behind our repeated appeals for donations. So, please do come forward with your donation and it will be remembered with gratitude and even with wall-plaques, if the amount exceeds Rs. 50,000. Learn about donating to the Balaga here.
About our Kannada Newsletter
We can really be happy with the response we received on this first attempt. It has gladdened the hearts of many and encouraged us to go ahead with the second! One of our new Members, Prof. Harishankar, who retired from Kannada Department of the University of Mysore, has volunteered to take up the editorial work. Welcome Sir, we want many more like you to organize more such new projects. Needless to add that success of such services depends on getting Sponsorship and Advertisements each month. The response so far has been encouraging but more are always welcome!
Donations received this month
Donations received this month for the Building Fund are listed below. The entire list is available here.
Smt. A. Susheela - Hyderabad - Rs.5,000.00
This is already her 3rd contribution to this cause and we are grateful to her for such continued patronage. Now that the work on the building has begun, we expect more and more donors to come forward to ensure that the progress of the work is not hindered due to any reasons. Our heartfelt thanks to all the donors. Learn about donating to the Balaga here.
Coming Events
As already announced, the Outdoor Sports will be conducted on Sunday, the 9th December at Rotary West School Premises in Saraswathypuram. Members are requested to participate in large numbers and contribute to its success.
Another event planned by our ladies is a Cooking Competition and Display of wheat-based sweet and savory items on 15th December at the Vanitha Sadana Hall on Narayana Sastry Road at 3.30 pm . Recipes as well as an idea of the cost and time involved for the preparation must be given by the participants. Prizes will be awarded for the best cost-effective items. This will be followed by a talk on Nature Cure by Smt. Hemalatha Subbukrishna, an expert in the field.
Finally, a word about our Nadige Shankar, who seems to be haunted by ill-luck all the way! Once again, he has had to withdraw from the International Gold Masters Championships held in Japan this month due entirely to personal reasons. Delayed issue of the visa also appears to have contributed to this decision. Really very unfortunate indeed! Well, we can only hope that there would be better luck next time!
That is about all for this time. Watch out for the next Newsletter with progress report on our Matrimonial Assistance Bureau and the Computer Awareness Workshop for Ladies!
Yours truly,
Dr. Y. Narayana Rao
