Badaganadu Balaga Newsletter - Oct 2007

My Dear Readers,

Our newsletter service is year old this month

This issue marks the successful completion of ONE year for our Newsletters. I thank every one of you who have steadfastly stood by us and given us much-needed encouragement. The newsletters over the last one year have chronicled the various activities and changes at the Balaga. Read them all here .

Quite naturally, we have been thinking on how to improve upon last year's performance. There are several ideas that have been put forth to improve our web site's use. Here are some ideas that are on the drawing board:

  • Provide a platform to people seeking matrimonial alliances (either for themselves or their children). Not a bad idea, eh? We are surely discussing this in our committee and I promise to come back to you soon.

  • Prompted by the fact that a majority of our Members is either not computer-savvy or has access to the Internet, there is a proposal to start a similar newsletter in Kannada to be mailed to each and every Member. It does a mean a drain on our meager resources by way of postal expenses, but it might be worth a try if we could find a sponsor for each such newsletter! As the letter reaches the Members at their doorstep, many of them are likely to go through it and be prompted to do respond to our appeals!

If you have any other suggestions or comments also, please do not hesitate to tell us. We will certainly consider them with an open mind and try to improve our performance.

Badaganadu Bhavana Building Project

I am happy to report that work on the Badaganadu Bhavana building started last month has made some progress. Fencing work of the site is almost complete and the saplings planted on the Bhoomi Puja day have been protected against stray cattle. Some arrangement has also been made for watering them at regular intervals. The final plans of the Building have been submitted to the Town Planning Authorities for approval. Next installment of the payment for the site falls due in October and we are confident of meeting it from the funds raised thus far. But what about the expenses towards the building cost itself? We are preparing detailed estimates of costs for each room, furniture, fixtures, doors, windows, etc. so that individual donors could opt to donate specifically towards such items and even have their names inscribed on them. We expect quite a number of you to come forward with generous contributions in this regard.

Contributions for the month of September 2007

Contributions from our Members and well-wishers for the Building Fund have continued to come in as usual and are listed below:

Needless to say that we appreciate these contributions in no less measure and remain thankful to all of them for their thoughtful gesture. We also wish many more come forward with such donations in the months to come! Kindly look up our website for a complete list of donors so far and to learn how you can donate.

Nadige Shankar

Finally, one word about our Veteran Athlete Nadige Shankar - he could not make it to Italy as no visa was granted by their Embassy to any of the selected participants from India - for reasons not specifically stated! It is learnt that only 3 of the 103 selected were granted the visa!! Naturally, he is once again a very disappointed person but he has all the sympathy and support from all of us. We wish him better luck next time!

Let me end on that note, wishing all of you the very best in everything you undertake. Thanks once again for your support over the last one year!

Yours truly,

Dr. Y. Narayana Rao
